ACMI

Folding Brochure

BUSINESS

Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) is known for its museum of films, TV, video games, digital culture and art.

OPPORTUNITY

Design an A3 folding brochure for a film noir festival focusing films in the genre from the 1940s to late 1950s.

Client request:

No specific films should be featured in the brochure – it should instead convey a mood that evokes a sense of intrigue and drama.

SOLUTION

Inspired by the classic associations with film noir, the design solution combines the elements of lipstick, smoke and strong contrast.

The resulting cover creates a vivid typographical solution that combines handwritten elements (using lipstick) with the simplicity of the sans-serif typeface.

The black background is a connection to the darkness associated with film noir, with added visual elements created with charcoal to mimic cigarette smoke.

The open A3 reveals a playful grid that clearly communicates the details of the films using a system that employs hierarchy and alignment to strong effect
